Mid-Atlantic Regional Environmental Consortium
The Mid-Atlantic Regional Environmental Consortium (MAREC), which includes not only the EPA and the Mid-Atlantic states mentioned above, but also the Allegheny County Health Department and the City of Philadelphia, Department of Public Health. MAREC was formed in 1993 to facilitate interagency cooperation among the states and with the EPA undertaking the task of developing a reciprocal agreement for asbestos.
The agreement makes it easier for asbestos abatement personnel to cross state borders to perform work which is subject to EPA/State certification requirements. It also ensures that standardized asbestos abatement training will be offered in every signatory state, and that state and federal regulators will cooperate in all asbestos accreditation matters.
